The Maxwell Underground Mine, owned by Malabar Resources Ltd has commenced operations at their Hunter Valley site, with planned production of up to 8 million tonnes of per annum. With approvals in place out to 2046, the mine targets high quality coal with the majority being metallurgical coal.
Malabar Resources is an independent Australian-based resources company located in the Upper Hunter Valley, in New South Wales.
In addition to the Maxwell Underground Mine, we own the Maxwell Solar Farm based on rehabilitated land on the Maxwell Infrastructure site, Maxwell Infrastructure, the Spur Hill Underground Project, and agricultural properties including the Merton Vineyard.
ABOUT THE ROLE
To support the growth of our operations, we are currently seeking an energetic and skilled Project Manager to join our Leadership Team. Reporting to the General Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing delivery of the Maxwell Underground Mine Project ensuring project deliverables meet both operational and budget requirements.
The Project Manager position is a site-based, key leadership, role which will require the incumbent to work collaboratively across operational departments, and with external contracting organisations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
If successful, the key objectives will include, but are not limited to:
- Management and reporting of project performance including plan vs. actual reporting.
- Overall management of Project Schedule – GANTT, critical path tracking and updates.
- Management of Capital Budget, in conjunction with the Commercial Manager, including estimate updates, tracking, forecasting, contingency management, and reporting.
- Engaging design consultants and operations team to finalise package scopes, designs and delivery methodologies where required.
- Development and management of project team; role scoping, onboarding, performance management.
- Contract management – including tendering and evaluation, contractor selection and contract formation and ensuring good contract administration processes are in place.
- Presenting updates to the Project Control Group (and Board as required).
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
- At least 5 years post qualification experience in a Project Management role in mining, construction, or with a major contractor to the resources sector.
- Experience in Underground Mine project development and associated studies
- Extensive experience managing, and collaborating with, a contract workforce assigned to significant project works.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully build and lead a Team to achieve Project Objectives
- Experience in preparing, and reporting, against budgets.
- Sound planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet production objectives.
- Excellence time management and prioritisation skills
- Recent experience in a highly productive contemporary longwall coal mine would be advantageous.
